Castello D’Alba 750ml
$10.99
Rui Roberto Madeira grew up in the Douro Valley, surrounded by vineyards. In 1987 Roberto worked his first harvest in the village of Vermiosa. In 2011 he returned to this village in Beira Interior subregion of the Douro Valley where he rehabilitated an old vineyard and released his first vintage of Castell d’Alba: a wine that he believed is a hidden treasures of Portugal. He specializes in old-vines of native grape varieties grown in the high altitudes and schist and granite soils of the Douro region.
The Castello d’Alba Tinto is a blend of 50% Touriga Franca, 30% Tinta Roriz and 20% Touriga Nacional grown on the schist soils of Douro Superior at altitude of 400 meters. All grapes are hand-harvested, fully destemmed and fermented and aged in stainless steel. Lovely red fruit aromas with a rocky earthiness waft from the glass. On the palate there is a very elegant and discreet minerality with great concentration of berries and spice with a long finish. Enjoy with strong meat dishes, game or firm cheeses.
