La Gerla estate was founded in 1976  in the hills of Montalcino.  By cultivating and respecting the native Sangiovese Grosso (known in the region as Brunello), they have established themselves as one of the great crus in the Brunello di Montalcino region of Tuscany. To carry the Brunello name, the wine must be 100% Sangiovese and aged in oak for a minimum of two years. La Gerla takes it a step further, aging this Brunello in Slavonian casks for 3 years and in bottle for 8 months, creating a powerful yet elegant wine.  Leather and licorice on the nose and dark berries on the palate make this a rich, full-bodied wine with good grip.
